Multiple award-winning artist Dave Mouat has been tattooing for over 25 years, beginning in the remote village of Lower Voe in Shetland before returning to New Zealand, opening Famous Dave’s Tattoo Studio in Hamilton, and later working in Morrinsville alongside his son Zed.

Dave has developed an experience-driven style focused on designs with presence—bold or subtle—crafted to last and express each client’s unique idea. He built the machines he first learned on, has created two globally viral tattoos, and has won multiple industry awards.

“I’m a husband, a dad, a Christian and someone who genuinely loves connecting with people. Tattooing is my craft, but the real reward is the trust and the stories behind every tattoo. My first experience of being tattooed was incredible and after it I knew I wanted to give this experience to others. When I’m not in the studio, you’ll find me enjoying my family or meeting up with friends. Or I might be onto a new hobby – until I’m not.”

Zeds Tattoo story begins as a toddler Being raised around his father’s tattoo studio “some of my first memories are of being out the back of the old studio in Hamilton” He drew his first tattoo design at age 9 which his father tattooed on a client. “It truly was a massive moment for my childhood” .
